How to Read a Cannabis Label (THC, CBD, Terpenes)

TL;DR

Washington labels show THC/CBD content, serving size, and batch info. Look for total THC per serving on edibles and THC/CBD percentages on flower and concentrates. Terpenes are often listed for aroma and effects.

Reading a cannabis label helps you know exactly what you're buying and how much to use. Washington State requires certain information on packaging. Here's what to look for.

THC and CBD Content

Labels show THC and often CBD content. For edibles, look for THC per serving (e.g., 5mg per gummy) and total THC in the package. For flower and concentrates, you'll see percentages (e.g., 22% THC). That tells you potency so you can dose appropriately. Our product guide explains dosing by product type.

Terpenes

Terpenes are compounds that affect aroma and may influence effects. Labels sometimes list terpenes like myrcene, limonene, or pinene. They're not required in all states but are useful for choosing strains. Learn more in our general education and terpenes section.

Batch and Testing

Washington-regulated products are tested. You may see a batch or lot number and sometimes a link to test results. This supports quality and safety. If you have questions about a specific product, ask your budtender at any Happy Time location.

Putting It Together

Use the label to choose the right potency and serving size—especially for edibles. When in doubt, start low and go slow. Browse our menus to see the kinds of products we carry and their labeling.
